Read this paper if you can’t live without a furry lovely companion nor with one due to your pet allergy.
Contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as “hypoallergenic pets”. Most people think the only thing that causes allergic reaction to pets is their fur, but you should know that the substance causing sneezing, coughing, itching and wheezing while encountering to pets is not the fur, but some special natural proteins contained in any warm-blooded animal’s fur, urine, dander and saliva. If your immune system is sensitive it responds abnormally to these proteins by releasing so much histamine. The shedding just helps the dander spread around the house thus it’s not the real problem here. Although knowing less-shedding or non-shedding breeds can help you choose your pet more wisely and enjoy your company. You can see a list of small non-shedding dogs (also “hypoallergenic dogs”) below:

 

1. Shih Tzu
Characteristics: Friendly, clever, intelligent, gentle, courageous, loyal, lively, outgoing
Height: 8 to 13 inches
Weight: 4 to 7.5 kg

 


Although the name “Shih Tzu” means little lion which is a nod to their ancient Chinese heritage, but they are lovers, not hunters. These born companions are well-adapted to apartment living, good for novice owners and affectionate with family and strangers. They are best known for their long, silky, luxurious double coat, which can be found in 14 different colors-including black, black and white, gray and white, and red and white.

 

2. Toy Poodle
Characteristics: Intelligent, energetic, affectionate, sociable, entertaining, elegant, highly trainable
Height: 10 to 15 inches
Weight: 3 to 4.5 kg


As one of the most popular breeds around the world, the Poodle earns that devotion with his intelligence, ease of training and his eager love of family. They adapt well to apartment living but if they are not physically and mentally stimulated, they get bored and can be destructive. And remember that your Poodle barely tolerates to be alone.  Also they are friendly with strangers and other dogs.
                                  

3. West Highland Terrier
Friendly, Hardy, Independent, Alert, Active, Courageous, 
Height: 9.8 to 11 inches
Weight: 6 to 10 kg


Westies are intelligent and easy to train and travel well. Despite being rather small, there's not a lot a Westie is afraid of. They are excellent vermin hunters, and they will chase just about anything that moves. They need regular exercise to prevent chewing, digging, and other problems stemming from boredom. 

  

4. Bolognese
Characteristics: Sturdy, polite, friendly, adaptable, affectionate, docile, serious, loyal
Height: 10 to 12 inches
Weight: 3 to 5 kg


These pups don’t much care for being left alone for long hours of the day but they prefer to come with you wherever you go. They have a stubborn side when it comes to training. They are typically reserved with strangers and will bark to alert their owner to anything new, unusual or strange.
                                             

5. Bedlington Terrier
Characteristics: Adaptable, affectionate, intelligent, energetic, protective, friendly, courageous, spirited
Height: 15 to 17.5 inches
Weight: 7 to 10 kg


They enjoy being the center of attention and are affectionate with family, kids and other dogs. They are moderately easy to train due to their high intelligence and With proper training and socialization, the Bedlington is an excellent companion and enthusiastic partner in all family activities.

             

6. Chinese Crested
Characteristics: Friendly, affectionate, happy, alert, companionable, elegant, graceful, agile
Height: 11 to 13 inches
Weight: 2 to 4.5 kg


They adapt well to apartment living and have a high social drive. He can be wonderful with familiar people, but he's likely to bite strangers. They have absolutely no tolerance for cold and trying to expose them to cold is not just cruel, but it doesn’t work.  

7. Scottish Terrier
Characteristics: Feisty, independent, excitable,, stubborn, quick, alert
Height: 10 to 11 inches
Weight: 10 to 11 kg


The first Scotty came to America in 1883. Scottish Terriers are undemanding in their exercise requirements and will readily adapt to the given circumstances. An adult dog needs an hour's daily exercise but will happily accept more. They are so sensitive to heat and are always on the lookout for adventure.
                      

8. Bichon Frise
Characteristics: Clever, charming, playful, affectionate, gentle, cheerful, feisty, sensitive
       Height: 9 to 11 inches
       Weight: 3 to 5 kg


Bichons Frises were found originally in the Mediterranean Countries and were first brought to the United States in 1956. This breed can be very vocal but you can socialise and adapt them very easily to live in households and with children and cats. Their average lifespan is about 14 to 16 years. 

9. Miniature Schnauzer
Characteristics: courageous, intelligent, playful, friendly, loyal, protective, vocal
Height: 11-14 inches
Weight: 5-9 kg


Miniature Schnauzers were originally bred to be ratters and guard dogs on farms. They were developed in the mid-to-late 19th century in Germany and have an average lifespan of 14 years.
Having an engaging appearance, being highly trainable and being an excellent family dog makes minis a very popular breed. You should also know that they standoffish toward strangers and can be snappy when nervous. They are also likely to attack other small animals, including cats. 

 

10. (Brussels Griffon)Griffon Bruxellois

Characteristics: Affectionate, self-trusted, confident, stubborn, companionable, inquisitive, alert, sensitive
Height: 9 to 11 inches
Height: 4 to 5 kg


The Griffon Bruxellois breed began over 200 years ago in Belgium, the city of Brussels. They adapt well to apartment living although you may have to train them not to bark at every noise they hear. They are also affectionate to family and kids.
